 For full darkness, choose a blackout fabric — a tightly woven coated material that blocks nearly all incoming light. For softer mornings with daytime privacy, a light-filtering fabric works well. Avoid sunscreen (solar) fabrics in bedrooms — those are designed to preserve the view and let some light through. 

 
Pricing depends on fabric type, opacity, and window size . Because Thermotek manufactures factory-direct from our 15,000 sq. ft. Edmonton facility, our roller blinds are typically 30-40% below retail showroom pricing.  Edmonton homeowners get a free in-home measure and next-day written quote. 

 Blackout blocks nearly 100% of light — best for bedrooms and media rooms. Light-filtering softens incoming light while keeping privacy — best for living and dining rooms. Sunscreen (solar) fabric has tiny perforations (1%, 3%, 5%, or 10% openness) that reduce glare and UV while preserving the outside view — best for west-facing windows and rooms with valued views.   Please note:  any light around the side edges is uncontrollable.

 Yes. All Thermo roller shades are cordless by default and meet Health Canada's Corded Window Coverings Regulations (SOR/2019-97). No accessible cord loops, no strangulation hazard. Cordless lift mechanisms are included on every roller blind we manufacture. 

 Yes — every Thermo roller shades can be ordered with motorization. Our motors integrate with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit. Control via voice command, smartphone app, programmable schedules, or remote. Motorized roller blinds are especially useful for hard-to-reach windows and skylights. 

 For Edmonton, standard roller blind orders are typically ready within 2-3 weeks from measurement to installation, since we manufacture in-house and produce 300+ blinds daily. Other Western Canadian cities include shipping time and local installer scheduling. 

 Inside mount sits inside the window frame for a clean, recessed look — ideal when you have at least 2 inches of frame depth and want to showcase the trim. Outside mount covers the entire window and frame — better for blocking maximum light, hiding awkward window proportions, or windows without enough depth for an inside mount.  Our installer recommends the right mount during your free measure. 

 Maximum widths depend on the fabric and opacity. For very wide windows like patio doors or great rooms, we typically split the opening into two or three roller shades on a shared headrail to keep the fabric flat and the lift mechanism reliable. Our team confirms the exact maximum during your in-home measure. 

 For routine dust, use a soft vacuum brush attachment or microfiber cloth on the lowered blind. For spots and stains, dab gently with mild soap and a damp cloth — don't soak the fabric, especially blackout linings. Solar and sunscreen fabrics rinse clean with a damp cloth on both sides.
